Team Refuge:
|
Who is Team Refuge? Jake Morland Jake Morland, now 31, has worked for The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) for the last eight years in hot spots around the world (West and East Timor, Darien Gap, Jordan, Darfur, the Tsunami operation in Sri Lanka and most recently in Iraq). His primary role in UNHCR has been the hands-on provision of emergency humanitarian assistance and protection. The goal of his work is to save lives but also to work with refugees to find durable solutions. When on leave Jake retreats to his home in Lavenham, a place he dreams of when in some of the world's most dangerous and tragic areas. James Turner James Turner, also 31, is a prep school teacher at Thomas' in Clapham. He has travelled extensively around the world, often with Jake, and taught for a year in Indonesia. Following his Polar Race win, James has become something of a hero to his students. His has used this interest to promote refugee awareness in his school. It is somewhat unusual for a ten year old to talk with relative ease about the situations children his or her age endure in refugee camps around the world. |
